American Idol 8 - Rock

current song: 1-2-3 by Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine on KSSK 92.3 FM

single released in 1988. UK #1 21 cycles ago... Theme From S'Express by S'Express.

Adam Lambert Wentz... painful to watch him bring out his inner Ashlee Simpson... tryin' to get his punk/rock on. turned away... listened to him sing. loved it. Simon: 1 criticism... performance underrated... I'm teasin'... could've been a disaster... but it's your best performance... nobody tonight will be able to top that.

Allison Iraheta... not bad. Simon: difference from when I 1st saw you 8 weeks ago staggering... composure... confidence... terrific vocals... but sounded like the original... I would have chosen the Queen song. Allison speaks up for herself... fights back. turn off. Allison's #2... innocently (perhaps not) flashes the backward V sign. funny.

Kris Allen and Danny Gokey do a duet. huh? they've been singin' too much ballads that they can't sing a rock song on their own? bascially Danny outsang Kris. Simon: who's better?... Danny, you were better than Kris.

Kris' solo performance ok. Nazi red lighting would have mesmerized me... instead he had GDR blue. still like the fact that he sings like a regular dude. Simon: didn't like it... like eating ice for lunch... nothing to remember... boring... it was a jam... at the beginning I said that no one would top Adam... I was right.

Danny sounded off from the beginning. genre doesn't match him... sounded like screaming. painful. Simon: last note's like from a horror movie... sound's like Friday the 13th... scream little over the top... for Adam it works... for you it didn't... still think you're safe.

Adam and Allison's duet best. I wondered how producers decided to divide the 4 contestants. I'm like: ooooh... boys vs girls. girls looked like they had a good time... huggin' in the end. Simon: in battle of duets, you win... completely different... Adam, you may have given her a chance to stay in this competition.

Adam's solo and duet performances faves of the night.
